Reflection, what reflection?

In an example of the absence of any sort of critical reflection that afflicts intense partisans on both sides in this country, Blogs for Bush has two interesting posts that create an interesting juxtaposition.

First, they post a link to an article noting that lawsuits in Ohio challenging the count have been dropped and conclude that this should have been long ago ("conclude" might be too strong a word, as I see little sense of argument or reasoning in the post; "assert" might be better).

Second, they post a link to a blog about the "stolen" election in Washington State, citing election problems with registration and such. This, of course, is a travesty for the bloggers.

Nowhere do I see any indication of any sort of critical reflection. The thought process might go something like this: "Well, if there are election problems in Washington, isn't it also possible that there might be election problems in Ohio and that those lawsuits might be onto something? Conversely, if the challenges in Ohio got thrown out, shouldn't they throw out challenges in Washington, as well. Or, how about this? Since there appear to be grievances on both sides maybe there's something wrong with the way we vote. I should explore this more."

But this would require sustained thought and a willingness to engage in some humble self-criticism, two attributes which appear to be in depressingly short supply these days.

Sigh...
